Lick Me (ice cream cone outfit)

This outfit debuted at a very private, exclusive and lewd Hallowe'en party in 1996, but it made it's first "official" public appearance at "phART", a performance and music event organized by the Kitten Ling Foundation (performers) and Dirt Farm (musicians) at Liquid Monkey in Ottawa.

The "waffle cone" part of "Lick Me" was hastily created from a very inexpensive honeycomb mattress topper from Zellers (nobody will know how little I paid!). The "ice-cream" was made by sewing a t-shirt into a piece of pink stretch knit that was leftover from my penis outfit. Wooden bead "sprinkles" were added, as well as a few stategically placed "drips" at crotch level on the front of the cone, and one big drip coming out of a hole at the bottom point of the cone. "The words "LICK ME" were emblazoned across the cone's back in blue acrylic paint. My brief phART performance consisted of me as the ice-cream cone spinning a lascivious yarn about ice-cream eating; techniques such a slow licking, tongue swirling and hasty biting were deconstructed. 'And just what do you do with those drips? Do ya lick 'em off right away? And do ya ever chew a hole in the bottom point of the cone and use a suction technique to get the ice-cream out from that end?' You get the idea. I had given Nathalie of the Kitten Ling Foundation a Drumstick™ cone to perform a simultaneous demonstration during my monologue. She worked that Drumstick™ like a pro!

This outfit bit the dust in 1999 when I put my stuff in storage in Ottawa. It became packing material for other art work.
The Kitten Ling Foundation was a very talented and energetic group of young performance artists and musicians based in Ottawa in the mid '90's. They always had little giveaways at their shows - often painted and glittered papier-maché fish. I have fish from 3 of their performances, including an aluminum foil one sewn into a clear vinyl casing with little sparkly stars and hearts and things drifting freely around inside.

Dirt Farm was the most smokin' band! They did a fabulous job at the opening of Reuel Dechene's show at the Manx in '97. And when Marc Behiels, Jenna Oldham and I had a housewarming party at our Hickory Street location, Craig Wilson from the band arrived with special guests from Toronto. Corpusse and Lorenz Peters were those guests and they did a really wicked set in our back room.
