here's the scoop on Darcy |

Darcy was born in Port Alberni, BC, Canada, in 1963. |

Where on earth is Port Alberni? | He was destined for a life of debauchery, as is obvious from the infamous "cigar" photo. | Behold the town's lovely pulp mill.

Darcy
moved to Ottawa in 1984. Here are Ottawa's famous parliament buildings in the dead of winter (which is pretty nuch most of the year). To see what they look like right now, please choose the link to the HILL CAM. |
Darcy went to art school at the University of Ottawa, 1990-1995.

He gave the school
thousands of dollars and five years of his time. In return, the school gave him
a B.F.A. (studio) and a B.A. with Honours in Theory and History of
Art. |

The Royal Oak Pub is indicated in purple. The black line connecting the two buildings indicates the parade route taken from school to the pub at lunch time, while the orange line indicates the route taken back to school (sometime later in the day...).
Darcy, with Laura Margita, opened a funky little gallery and art retail space in Ottawa in 1996 called "Creative Outlet / Gallery C O".

A typical vernissage (from the French, meaning "boozy art opening") was well attended with upwards of 200 people passing through the cramped 540 sq. ft space in the course of a few hours. They should have opened a bar instead. | They made no money and got no sleep but had a lot of laughs
during their 15 month foray into the exciting world of art
dealing. The gallery hosted exhibits by some of Ottawa's finest emerging artists, and e-raw-tica based theme shows attracted large crowds and received a lot of attention. |

Sales weren't exactly brisk, however, and it was soon apparent that dime store posters were favoured over fine original art as the primary home decorator accents of Ottawans.
Laura Margita's
clever little objet-d'art (right) was strategically priced so that had they
found a buyer who could afford its cool $ million dollar price tag, the gallery
would have been set. Alas, there were no takers. |

"Bondage, anyone?" | ![]() |
a diverse artistic practice...
Darcy and Laura collaborated again in the autumn of 1997 to organize the first ever "Black Tie 2 Bondage" fashion show fund-raiser for SAW Gallery in Ottawa, and it has become a much anticipated annual event. | Darcy works in performance art, video, painting, drawing and far-out costume design. Much of his work has an accent on the rude and unusual since his audience loves stuff that's, uh, rude and unusual! |
Darcy moved to Vancouver in the autumn of 2001. | ![]() |

"The Drive" is his neighbourhood. He likes it in "The 'Couve" in spite of the rain, the more rain and the relentless rain. His favourite things about the city are the availability of superb quality fresh ginger root everywhere (so crisp and clean and not too fibrous), the live prawn tank at the T & T Market on 1st Avenue and "beach in the city". |
